Dr Abbas Khushnood is a highly esteemed consultant paediatric cardiologist and heart transplant physician based in Newcastle Upon Tyne. He is an expert in managing children born with congenital heart disease (CHD), echocardiography and treatment of advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation.
He specialises in the management and treatment of all cardiac conditions in children – heart murmurs, valvular problems, exercise physiology, chest pain, palpitations, faintness & blackouts, syncope, dysautonomia including POTS.
Dr Khushnood holds several leadership and academic positions including National Clinical Lead for the National Institute for Cardiovascular Outcomes Research and Associate Clinical lecturer at Newcastle University. He is also Network Director for the North-East Paediatric CHD Network and Governance & Imaging Lead at the Freeman Hospital. His academic work is widely published in scientific journals, leads on national and international research studies and also a prominent educator in the field of cardiology.
With growing evidence of vascular and dysautonomic impact of Long COVID in children and concerns around long-term cardiovascular ramifications, Dr Khushnood has become a patient advocate, researcher, and medical champion for Long COVID Kids charity. He now sees and treats children at the Long COVID clinic for children.
